GENERAL

· What's your main reason for changing your kitchen?

· How long do you plan on living in the home you are remodeling/building?

· How many people are in your household? List adults, teens, children & pets.

· Are you right-handed? Left-handed? How tall?

· Do you entertain frequently? Formally? Informally? Do you like great-room (open-plan) designs?

· Is the kitchen located on the first or second floor? Is there a full basement, crawl space, or concrete slab below? Is there a second floor, attic, or open ceiling above?

· What type of heating system do you have?

DESIGN

· Do you have an open or vaulted ceiling?

· Is the kitchen to be designed for a physically challenged person? Is the individual confined to a wheelchair?

· What style is your home's exterior?

· What style would you like for your kitchen? (For example, high-tech, country, contemporary, French country, traditional, etc.)

· What color schemes do you prefer?

· Should soffit space above cabinets be boxed in? Open for decorative articles? Cabinets continuous to ceiling?

· What counter top materials do you prefer: Laminate? Ceramic tile? Solid surface? Butcher block? Stone? Stainless steel? More than one material?

· Do you want a 4-inch or full back splash?

· What are present wall and ceiling coverings? What wall treatments do you like? Paint? Wallpaper? Wood? Faux finish? Plaster? Glass block?

· What flooring do you have? Do you need new flooring? Wood? Vinyl? Ceramic tile? Stone? Other?

WORK AREA

· Will this be a two-cook kitchen?

· What secondary activity areas do you want? Baking center? Planning desk? Breakfast nook? Laundry and ironing center? Wet bar? Other?

· Would you like an island or a peninsula?

CABINETRY & STORAGE

· List new cabinet material to be used: wood, laminate, or other? If wood, should it be painted or stained? Light or dark? If natural, do you want oak, maple, pine, cherry?

· Cabinet requirements: Appliance garage? Pull-out shelves? Lazy Susan? Tilt-down sink front? Pantry pack? Storage wall with pull-out bins? Tray divider? Spice storage? Breadbox/flatware drawer? Wall oven cabinet? Built-in microwave? Vent hood? Built-in refrigerator? Utility cabinet? Cutting board? Knife storage? Wine rack? Wastebasket? Glass doors? Open shelving? Other?

LIGHTING

· What lighting type is desired: Incandescent? Fluorescent? Halogen? 12-volt or low-voltage? What fixture types? Recessed down lights? Track lights? Pendant fixtures? Under cabinet strips? Indirect soffit lighting?

APPLIANCES

· List your present appliances. What new appliances are you planning? What finish: white, black, matching panel?

· Would you prefer a vent hood or downdraft system? Do you want a decorative ceiling fan?

RENOVATIONS

· Can existing plumbing be moved?

· If necessary, can present doors and windows be moved?

· Consider any other structural additions: Skylights? Greenhouse window or sun-room? Cooking alcove? Pass-through? Other?

TIME & BUDGET

· What time framework do you have for completion?

· What budget figure do you have in mind?
